LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST

La Fanciulla del West is based on American author, David Balisco’s, The Girl of the Golden West. This symphonic poem by Giacomo Puccini premiered in New York in 1910, and has been incredibly popular ever since. The story was originally set near a California gold mining camp in the mid-1800s. However, Opera Colorado has transported the story to Colorado through collaborations with the Denver Public Library and History Colorado. Historical photos will become a powerful video backdrop for the wild and tempestuous story. Many academics and musicians agree that this is Puccini’s greatest work.
