Who Killed Tchaikovsky?
April 27

Former Music Director Jeffrey Kahane returns to examine the root causes in the turbulent emotional life that led to this Russian master’s early demise. Kahane leads the Colorado Symphony, and gives insight into the brilliance of this “rock star” of his time, a man without any of the freedoms we enjoy today.

Tchaikovsky Discovers America
April 29

The great Russian composer journeys to America in this special storytelling concert. From his arrival in New York and famous trip to Niagara Falls to a surprise encounter with a young girl named Jennie, this concert weaves music into drama as two actors recreate historical events from the composer’s life and dance story passages from his famous ballets, including The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake.

Mariachi Cobre
May 5

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Colorado Symphony and Mariachi Cobre. The dashing 12-piece Mariachi band is Walt Disney World’s great export, sporting three guitarists, two trumpet players and seven violinists who combine to deliver the warm, rich rhythms of Mexican folkloric music.

A Sea Symphony
May 12-13

Set to texts of Walt Whitman, Vaughan Williams’ romantic, larger-than-life choral orchestral work evokes the sea in all its majesty and fury. The young, 30-year-old composer created an awesome work of searing intensity and remarkable ingenuity, which will receive its Colorado Symphony premiere.

Olga Kern Plays Grieg
May 18-20

Olga Kern returns, this time in Grieg’s timeless concerto, whose first phrase is among the most dramatic ever penned. The Symphony then performs her countryman Shostakovich’s 11th symphony, a work so descriptive it is sometimes dubbed “a film score without the film.”

Flamenco!
May 25

Flamenco lies at the very soul of the Spanish Gypsies, often a misunderstood and misrepresented people. Flamenco, an art form which epitomizes self confidence, style and pride, is lovingly presented by the Colorado Symphony with world-renowned guitarists, singers and dancers.

Broadway Rocks 2!
May 26

If you enjoyed the sold-out Colorado Symphony Broadway Rocks performance, come back for a whole new show. Four top-notch vocalists, direct from Broadway, join the Symphony for modern favorites from Jersey Boys, Lion King, Hairspray, Les Misérables, Wicked, Dreamgirls and Phantom of the Opera.

Mahler 3
June 1-2

Mahler’s sprawling symphony is an epic hymn to nature with each movement a step on the journey to the perfection he perceived in the world around – and beyond.

Shakespeare in Music
June 8-10

Shakespeare has long inspired orchestral composers. Guest conductor Christian Arming has chosen the best and brightest of these works to celebrate the great Bard. World-famous mezzo soprano and Denver-area native Michelle DeYoung makes her long anticipated debut at these concerts.
