Denver Center for the Performing Arts
The Denver Center for the Performing Arts encompasses an exhilarating combination of Broadway shows, professional theatre and dazzling venues. As the flagship theatre company in the Rocky Mountain region, the DCPA creates and presents exceptional productions. The Denver Center Theatre Company received the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre in 1998. In 1979, the Denver Center paired with local Broadway presenter Robert Garner to form Denver Center Attractions. In 2002, Disney Theatricals selected the Mile High City to host the touring premiere of The Lion King.  Breaking box office records, 1,800 fans stood in line, contributing to a sell-out audience of 220,000 for the 10-week run. The Denver Center also was chosen to host the pre-Broadway engagement of Disney’s The Little Mermaid in 2007.

Denver Performing Arts Complex

In 1972, Denver Post Publisher Don Seawell found himself at 14th and Curtis Street looking at the Denver Municipal Auditorium and the deserted surrounding city blocks. He was struck with an idea that would become the largest performing arts facility under one roof in the world. Today, the Denver Performing Arts Complex, located on an astounding four-block, 12-acre site, features 10 performance spaces connected by an 80-foot-tall glass roof. The DCPA utilizes several stages within the complex.

  • In 1991, the 2,830-seat Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre was created to be a state-of-the-art Broadway roadhouse. Primarily utilized by Denver Center Attractions, the Buell is ranked as the nation’s highest-grossing theatre under 3,000 seats.
  • The Ellie Caulkins Opera house was remodeled from the antiquated Auditorium Arena. It also occasionally hosts touring Broadway shows.
  • The Helen G. Bonfils Theatre Complex, home to the Denver Center Theatre
Company, houses four theatres: The Stage Theatre, 778 seats; The Space Theatre, 550 seats; The Jones Theatre, 200 seats; and The Ricketson Theatre, 250 seats.
